What does the Business Crime Coordinator do?

The Business Crime Coordinator builds up and shares with members’ information of known offenders’ activity in the area, co-ordinates crime reduction initiatives, gathers evidence and manages and issues exclusion notices for offenders. Importantly, the Coordinator ensures members adhere to the scheme protocols, particularly in respect of their responsibility towards data protection.

 

Who is the Business Crime Coordinator?

Mike Jacklin has been the Business Crime Coordinator since March 2005.  He is the ‘public face' of the RCTBCRP and is well known to most people in Aberdare having served the area in various roles with Woolworths for 38 Years and then as a member of the Aberdare Chamber of Trade. Mike is also involved with the Cynon Valley Crime Prevention Association and was a board member of the Rhondda Cynon Taf Community Safety Partnership from 2001 to 2005.  In his spare time, Mike is an enthusiastic Cardiff Blues supporter.


What is the background of the concept?

The Home Office, under the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, have been encouraging local communities to bring together relevant stakeholders and set up local partnerships to manage local problems.


What is the Safer Business Award?

This is a Home Office standard of good partnership practice where there is local partnership of stakeholders like RCTBCRP. The Partnership (members), work together to make a quantifiable reduction in crime and disorder in the area. The Safer Business Award provides a structure that enables you to share information legally and legitimately.
